Restless Elements
restless: unwilling or unable to stay still or to be quiet and calm
element: a part of something or a small amount of an emotion or quality
In his lecture Mind and Restlessness Aesthetic Realist Eli Siegel said “the pain that comes from restlessness doesn’t come because you’re moving; when you’re restless you have to move, and, at the same time, you’re against moving.” I have been thinking about a restlessness that is the deepest feeling of not being at home in the world. We only need to switch on the news or look at our phones to know this sensation. The world we are living in moves at lightening speed, in unpredictable directions, sometimes with devastating effects. In this body of work, I explored the remnants of pervading disquiet through the depiction of disrupted internal and external landscapes.
